It is DAY 5 the 30 Paintings in 30 Days Challenge. No themes, no rules, just paint. The butterfly is a classic symbol of transformation, and as I painted this swallowtail my thoughts turned my friends in the transgender community. Amidst all the political opinions on the civil rights of others, it occurs to me that many people have forgotten the basic tenet of being a a decent human being –kindness. I have been fortunate to have the benefit of knowing the bravery of those in transition, of seeing the joy, and pain, of the journey, of witnessing the joy of recognition. Recognition.
People only want to be seen without need of explanation, recrimination or commentary. It is no great imposition to expect to seen. Open your eyes to transform your heart.
